Join Us 02/20/2026 at La Carreta

Join us on February 20, 2026 from 3:30 to 4:30pm at La Carreta in Thousand Oaks to learn about self-watering container gardening using used food-safe buckets from the restaurant that would otherwise go into the trash. La Carreta donates its used buckets to the Learn & Grow Educational Series for re-use as self-watering gardening containers, vermiculture composters, and more!

This event is open to the public. We will have some pre-built self-watering containers for children in attendance to decorate with acrylic paint pens, fill with soil, plant, and take home to grow their own fruits and/or vegetables.

We appreciate La Carreta for not only donating its used food-safe buckets to our program, but also for giving us the space to hold this event on February 20, 2026, which is hopefully the first of such events with many more in the future to come.

No reservations are required, but it’s first-come/first-serve on the free self-watering containers. We will also have some pre-built and decorated self-watering containers available for people who would like to take them home to plant them out and use them; we ask for a donation of $10 each for these ready-to-go planters.

We hope to see you there! Comment on this post or the original Instagram post, or DM us on Instagram for more information. Download the PDF of the event flyer in English/Española.

We are also grateful to our other business sponsor, Superior 1 Service Plumbing. These future focused water experts appreciate the water-conservative nature of our self-watering gardening containers, as well as our how our program repurposes used food-safe plastic buckets from restaurants that would otherwise end up in landfills, and all to help teach children and families life skills that can protect them from food insecurity, come what may.

The water experts at Superior 1 Service Plumbing have been assisting us with hands-on volunteer support to build out pre-made self-watering containers for our upcoming events and to donate to local food pantry beneficiaries, where possible. They also assist us with program materials and in-person co-teaching support at community-based instruction events.

If you are in the Antelope, Santa Clarita, or San Fernando Valley consider Superior 1 Service Plumbing for your residential plumbing needs. It is family owned and committed to its neighbors and communities.

We hope to see you on February 20, 2026 from 3:30 to 4:30pm at La Carreta!
