Students

Getting the information you need so you can make your own choices about what food goes into your body can take a lot of searching all over the place, and even then, half the information seems to contradict the other half.

We make it easy so you don’t have to go on a quest to find out what you need to know. Not only that, but we’ve got awesome stuff for kids of all ages here that you won’t find anywhere else.

For high school students, we look at everything from the environmental impact of commercial agriculture to the science of organic farming. We examine the biochemical bases for what makes some foods good for our bodies and other foods not so good. We look at how agriculture has shaped human civilization for millennia and continues to do so today, as well as how we can control how agriculture shapes our lives now and in the future through smart personal choices and the power of our votes in adulthood.

For middle school students, we look at the politics and intrigue surrounding commercial agriculture, food distribution, and retail sales.  There’s plenty of excitement and drama when we look at how different government programs involving food operate, including school lunch programs!

For older elementary students, we take you on scientific adventures and travels back through time. You will discover how early humans invented farming, the chemical reactions that make soil, and how plants communicate with each other.

For kindergarten and early elementary students, our activities are fun and messy! Make sure you’re wearing your gardening clothes when you take on one of our projects for younger kids.

You need to understand that all of the projects and activities on this site are about where food comes from, making healthy food choices, and growing your own organic fruits and vegetables using our specially designed self-watering bucket containers, which you can build with inexpensive, if not free, materials. You can also build them with higher-end materials and decorate them to make them super-awesome!

The first thing you need to know how to do, with adult help if you’re under 16 or you aren’t familiar with using a power drill and hack saw, is how to build self-watering bucket containers. This is something that everybody who uses this site needs to know. Our self-watering bucket containers are used in just about every project we have, so read our step-by-step instructions and watch our how-to video to learn how you can make your own container garden.
