Truck Transportation Merit Badge

While building a self-watering bucket container garden will not satisfy any requirements for this badge, this badge is still very relevant to the issues that our Learn & Grow Educational Series is meant to address.

Trucking is used to transport, among other things, fresh produce from commercial fields and packing plants. This badge requires you to describe how trucks fit into a company’s supply chain. We suggest that you explore this within the context of a retail grocery store chain.

Consider also how the materials used in building self-watering bucket containers are transported to hardware stores, building suppliers, construction companies, garden centers, nurseries, landscapers, and commercial kitchens. As it turns out, 5-gallon buckets can serve many uses. PVC pipe and atrium drains are moved through commercial supply chains, as well, and trucking is an integral part of how those goods are moved around the United States.
